Nicki Minaj Denies Dancer Involvement In Fan Murder

Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday Tour touched down in Tokyo, Japan, last week, and following one of the rapper's colorful stage shows, things took a devastating turn: One of Minaj's fans was murdered after attending the May 25 concert.

On Thursday (May 31), Minaj took to Twitter to send condolences and deny allegations that her dancer was involved in the incident.

"Saddened to learn one of my precious fans; found tragically murdered in Japan. My love & prayers are with the family of Nicola Furlong," Nicki wrote.

The 21-year-old fan, a foreign exchange student from Dublin City University in Ireland, was found dead in a Tokyo hotel room after attending Minaj's show at Zepp Tokyo a few hours earlier.

An early report on PerezHilton.com stated that Furlong and her friend Sarah Maher linked up with Minaj's backup dancer James Blackston and another musician, Larry Perry, after the show, heading to the men's hotel rooms. Furlong was later found strangled to death in the room, while Maher reported that she was sexually assaulted by both men in a taxi.

After sending her condolences to the slain fan's family, Minaj addressed rumors that her dancer was involved, tweeting directly at the celebrity gossip blogger. "My dancers had nothing to do w/this tragedy. No one in my entourage was questioned or arrested. They all flew home from Japan," she wrote. "That person on your [site] is NOT my dancer. We do NOT know the men in custody. Too much misleading information."

According to IrishCentral, Tokyo police have released a statement confirming that they arrested two American men in connection with the crime. James Blackston, 26, and an unidentified 19-year-old have been taken into custody. "These two men allegedly took advantage of a female unable to resist due to the fact she was in a comatose state from a highly alcoholic beverage," the report states, adding, "As that is an indecent act, they have been charged with quasi forcible indecency."

The police also confirm Maher's story of being harassed in the taxi, noting, "On a taxi ride between Shibuya and Shinjuku, they took advantage of a woman by touching her body."

Furlong's body is expected to arrive in her hometown of Curracloe, Ireland, on Thursday, where she will be laid to rest. The 21-year-old was studying at the Takasaki City University of Economics in Takasaki, Japan.

Beetle flight: Flapping protective wings increase lift

ScienceDaily (May 29, 2012) ? The forewings of beetles, the elytra, are hardened structures which protect the insect's flying wings and body. The function of the forewings in flight has been questioned, which is what prompted researchers at Lund University's Department of Biology to study how the forewings and the underlying flying wings work in dung beetles. The researchers studied the air flow created by the wings when the beetles fly in a wind tunnel. The wind tunnel in Lund is one of a few of its kind in the world.

"The results show that the forewings, which are held out and flap during flight, generate lift, helping the beetles to stay airborne," says Christoffer Johansson Westheim, researcher at Lund University.

The study also shows, however, that the beetles are less effective at generating lift than other animals, as a result of their forewings negatively affecting their flying wings. Thus the protection afforded by the hardened forewings comes at a cost in the form of lower efficiency in flight. One conclusion to be drawn from this is that if the flying wings alone could provide enough power to keep the insect in flight, the forewings would fold back over the body while the beetle is flying, which is precisely what happens in some species. The study is the first of its kind on beetles, but the researchers consider that the results could apply generally to beetles whose flying wings flap behind forewings -- despite the fact that the dung beetles are a fairly extreme case, with a body weight of 5-7 grams and a wingspan of around 15 centimetres.

The beetles used in the current study were captured in South Africa, where they normally fly at night over open terrain, on the hunt for dung. Their flight speed is high and the dung beetles are hardly known for their manoeuvrability. They often miss the dung they are looking for and land some way away from it, but they prefer to walk the last distance rather than attempt a more accurate landing. The research study is part of a project aiming to understand the adaptations of various animals to flight, and how the animals' different origins affect their capacity to fly.

The researchers taking part in the current study are Christoffer Johansson Westheim, Sophia Engel, Emily Baird, Marie Dacke, Florian T. Muijres and Anders Hedenstr?m, all of whom work at the Department of Biology at Lund University.

Oklahoma City drag boat race event to feature Salute to the Troops

Oklahoma's post 9/11 veterans will be honored at the 2012 Ozarka-Riverwind OKC Nationals drag boat races June 8-10 on the Oklahoma River.

Salute to the Troops will be presented June 9 by the Chickasaw Nation.

Retired and active troops who served since Sept. 11, 2001, will be given complimentary admission.

They are asked to register in advance at www.kfor.com/okcnationals and to present their military ID card at the race to receive their passes.

Each service member will receive two complimentary passes. Children age 12 and younger will be admitted at no cost. Free parking will be available for troops and their families.

Memorial Day Armed Forces event at Texas State Railroad

The 15th Annual?Memorial Day Armed Forces Event will be held at the Texas State Railroad on May 25, 26 and 27, 2012. The event offers visitors a chance to see military history come to life with a U.S.O. show and dinner, mock battle train rides, and other activities throughout the weekend.?

On Friday, May 25th, the event begins with a historic military transport one-way train ride from the Rusk Depot with a special consist that includes freight cars with vintage military tanks and vehicles. BOSTON (AP) ? Ray Allen was out on the perimeter like so many times before during a 16-year career in which he's established himself as the most prolific 3-point shooter in NBA history.

Only this time, he was alone.

The Philadelphia 76ers were sagging off the Celtics guard in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals, essentially daring him to shoot another 3; he had already missed five. And when Allen got the ball behind the arc on the left side, near the start of the fourth quarter of a three-point game, he showed a rare moment of hesitation before shooting.

But this one was good.

Allen hit a pair of 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to overcome his early woes, and the Celtics beat the Sixers 85-75 to advance to the Eastern Conference finals against the Miami Heat.

Game 1 is Monday night in Miami.

"I had some great looks tonight, probably the best I've seen so far this postseason. I wish I had some back," said Allen, who scored eight of his 11 points in the fourth. "It's almost like I needed the fourth quarter ... I love to get to that point, you focus a little more. But they go in when they counted."

Rajon Rondo had 18 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists for his ninth career postseason triple-double, and Kevin Garnett scored 18 with 13 rebounds as Boston reached the NBA's round of four for the third time in five years. Paul Pierce had 15 points and nine rebounds, but he picked up four fouls in less than four minutes in the middle of the fourth quarter and fouled out.

Rondo opened the game with a burst ? four assists and two rebounds in the first three minutes ? but did little over the next two-plus quarters before taking over when Pierce fouled out with 4:16 to play. Rondo had 11 points, four assists and three rebounds in the fourth quarter alone, even drawing up a play during a timeout to get Allen open for a 3.

"To have the trust in Ray, after the way he was shooting the ball, to get it to him for him to make it says a lot about Ray," Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. "And I think it says a lot about our team: We trust you for 48 minutes. And I thought that was huge."

Allen, 36, has been struggling with bone spurs in his ankle, and he has been visibly slower after missing the last nine games of the regular season and the first two of the playoffs. Rivers said it would be difficult to hide Allen's weaknesses on defense, but that on offense we was still a threat because "if I tell Ray to stand in the corner, someone's going to stand next to him."

Still, Philadelphia took a chance on giving Allen space for large portions of the game, using his defender to help out elsewhere. Sixers coach Doug Collins denied that they had intentionally left Allen open, but it was apparent to anyone in the building that covering him on the perimeter wasn't their top priority.

"We never want to give Ray Allen a clean look at a three," Collins said, calling Allen one of the classiest and hard-working athletes he's ever known. "The one thing about great shooters is that they are going to keep shooting. He knocked down those two 3s and gave them some distance. That's what great players do."

The NBA's all-time leader in regular season 3-pointers ? he's 21 behind Reggie Miller in playoff 3s ? Allen missed his first five attempts from beyond the arc on Saturday night, some of them quite badly. Boston was 0 for its first 14 as a team, but when Allen passed up back-to-back open jumpers in the middle of the third, Rivers pulled him aside.

"I went over to him and said, 'Hey, listen, we're not going to have that,'" the Celtics coach said. "And I told him again, I said, 'Ray, listen, you don't ever pass up shots.'"

Rondo went over and told Allen the same thing, and then Garnett did, too, "which I thought was great for Ray to hear, confidence-wise," Rivers said. "I thought that was big for him to hear."

Allen checked back into the game near the end of the third quarter, and he found himself open from 3-point range early in the fourth. He dribbled a few steps, realized he was still open, and fired up the shot.

It went in, and the crowd rose to give him a standing ovation.

"Ray is the ultimate gunslinger," Rivers said. "You know, I was a basketball player one day. And I would've never taken that shot late in the game like Ray, after missing my first (five). First of all, I wouldn't have been in. ... It was just impressive. You felt like if he got a shot - I didn't know if he was going to make it, but I knew he was going to take it."

Age: 27
Appearance: Victoria is remarkably beautiful, and she knows it. Her dark, wavy hair falls to her upper back, and her brown eyes are fringed with impossibly long lashes. She doesn't quite look British; there's an exotic air to her, although it's hard to put a finger on. She's on the petite side, standing at 5'6, although her hand-to-hand combat skills more than make up for it
Personality: Victoria can be incredibly ruthless, although this side of her is usually masked with over-the-top sweetness.
Other: Not much is known about Victoria, other than that she works- or rather, worked- for Brooks's. A year prior to the events of this RP, she inexplicably disappeared from London after she and Peter Finlay were shot at. She hasn't contacted anyone, and no one has any clue as to her whereabouts.

Name: Nathan (Nate) Bainbridge
Guild: The Underworld
Age: 20
Appearance: Nate has a mop of black, curly hair which he usually keeps under a checkered hat. He's a tad shorter than Peter, but more sturdily built.
Personality: Nate is definitely the most mature member of the Underworld, with the exception of the Guildmaster himself. He's a bit like an older brother to Peter, and he's always having to clean up Peter's messes. He's funny, albeit easily annoyed. He's also a stickler for manners.
Other: He's one of the highest-ranking members of the Underworld due to his skills as a con man. He and Peter often work together for missions; he does the espionage, and Peter fires bullets when necessary.

Name: Kallen Bradford
Guild: Machiavelli
Age: 52
Appearance: Kallen is a man of healthy appearance, his skin only minimally wrinkled and his brown hair, which has taken on a silver tint, is mostly in tact despite a balding top of the head. He has kind brown eyes and smile. He stands at a tall 6?2??, though when slouching he can appear up to four inches shorter.
Personality: Due to his age, Kallen doesn?t exactly have much of an interesting personality. He?s blunt, intelligent, and gets the work that needs to be done finished ahead of time. He is a great guy at heart, someone who cares deeply for others, and generally values human life.
Other: He is extremely protective over Amaryllis, though they seem to have more of an argumentative relationship than anything. He has been a member of Machiavelli ever since it formed and has personal relations with the Boss.

Name: Joseph Finn
Guild: Machiavelli
Age: 21
Appearance: Joseph isn?t exactly the most attractive guy out there. His skin is blemished and generally sun burnt, which contrasts greatly against his bright blonde hair, which is cut in a shaggy, curly manner. He stands at 5?8?? with a rather skinny, non-athletic build. His only good feature seems to be his bright green eyes.
Personality: You know that guy that nobody takes seriously? Yeah, that would be Joseph. He?s extremely childish and doesn?t really take anything seriously. Because of his unfortunately weak body type, he enjoys working under Kallen as an information gatherer.
Other: He joined Machiavelli in order to pursue a relationship with Amara, but is now more of a younger brother to her, despite his age. He also looks up to Kallen as a mentor and role model.

Name: Marius Debrave
Guild: Underwood
Age: 23
Appearance: Marius is, all in all, an extremely attractive fellow. Short black hair frames a strong-boned face: high cheek bones, strong brow bones, and a great chin line. A set of grey-blue eyes sits back in a tanned complexion. He stands at 6?1?? and has a fairly athletic build that features broad shoulders and developed muscles.
Personality: At first glance, Marius is the perfect guy: good-looking, charming, and full of chivalry. He seems to be able to say exactly what you want to hear and how you want to hear it in order to get what he wants. He has undying loyalty to his guild, but his loyalty seems to fade when it comes to relationships with others.
Other: He moved from Scotland with Amaryllis; they?ve been close since childhood. They have an off and on romantic relationship. He lives in an apartment just beside her home, though most of the time they hang out in his apartment. Though he knows that Amara is a member of Machiavelli, she is completely unaware that he is a member of Underwood and he?d like to keep it that way since he is feeding Underwood information he manages to get off of her.
